Above, you initially see the normal list of ItemTypes in your SubjectArea. If you click the "namespace search" button, then you will get a subset of ItemTypes. The displayed ItemTypes are only the ItemTypes that can contain Items that create namespaces. To do a NameSpace search, you have to select one or more "parent Items" or seed Items, that will be the top of a NameSpace hierarchy. The NameSpace search will start with these seed Items, and look at all the Items that are in its sub-namespaces all the way down to the bottom of the NameSpace hierarchy.

Above you presented with a list of ItemTypes. This is the subset of ItemTypes in your Subject Area that are below the Seed ItemType that you selected. These are the ItemTypes that are in the NameSpace of you Seed Item. You select which ItemTypes you want to search. You can select one or more ItemTypes. When you click the button, an Extended Search Filter screen appears to the right.
This Extended Search Screen allows you to enter qualifiers on the Item Name and the attributes to search to find the Items you need. If you select more than one ItemType to search, then the attributes listed on the Extended Search Screen are all the attributes of those ItemTypes combined together!
When you have entered the qualifiers, click the OK button. The list if Items will display on the left. If you want to change your search, merely change the qualifiers, and click OK again. Do this until you find the Items you are looking for.
You can do a successive type search. First enter the most general qualification. Then list the Items. If there are too many, enter more specific qualifiers. This will then make the returned subset successively smaller until you have narrowed them down to the Items you are searching for.
