A User-Created Object Viewer using RoAccess and its ADK
The company had previously created an object oriented architecture and wanted to keep what they had developed, but still use the Rochade Repository.

Their newly created application runs in 3 frames:

  • The top frame lists logical object names.  When you click on one of the Object Buttons, the lower left frame is drawn.
  • The lower left frame list logical attributes for that logical object.  When you click on one of the logical attributes, the lower right frame is then drawn.
  • The lower right frame lists full information about that logical attribute.
Very professional, wouldn't you agree?

This application is launched via a standard HTML link, which can be in any HTML document, Bookmark or Favorites list.  That makes it very convenient to go directly to this page/application.

Username/Password protection is used.  If the User has logged into this subject area via RoAccess any time that day, he/she will allowed access to this application without requiring a subsequent login/username/password sequence.  This is a standard feature of RoAccess with several available options.

Note from the URL, that this application resides in the "user_cgi-bin" directory.    This is separated from the RoAccess cgi-bin directory so you can be guaranteed that your code will never be affected, overwritten or deleted  by any subsequent RoAccess updates.  This is also true for the user_html directory, where you can place your custom HTML documents and images created with your favorite HTML editors and graphics programs.

The user who was assigned this task was only given a couple of weeks.  Since he had no WEB server, HTML syntax or perl programming experience, that was a real challenge to say the least.  But he did know the Rochade Repository, and that was the key.  By using a combination of cut-and-paste from RoAccess screens that did similar functions and custom programming on his part, he was able to create this application in this really short time.  We also worked with him to shorten his learning phase and provided screen and code examples as a guide.

He agreed that if he was assigned this screen knowing what he knows today, this screen could have been done in 4 to 8 hours!  That is real productivity.

You would be pleasantly surprised how quickly new applications can be generated with RoAccess.

So if you are hesitant about how to create your custom applications, don't be....
